Parenting 2.0
A New Paradigm for Parenting
Do you believe role modeling is the high bar for parenting? An international, grassroots, consciousness movement called Parenting 2.0 invites you to retire that script. “Parents around the world send children to school for years to learn math, sports and music by third party credentialed instructors. When these same children struggle on playgrounds absent formal education in interpersonal skills, however, adults call them names: bullies, victims, drama queens and punish them” says Founder Mama Marlaine (Marlaine Paulsen Cover.) P20 advocates a more proactive and dynamic educational process for critical Life Skills – interpersonal skills, financial literacy, and digital safety etc.
Parents today have the hardest job on the planet – serving on the front lines raising humanity – and tragically little appreciation, validation or support for their challenges. We might as well tell people to fly a 747 absent instruction for the difficulty of the job and general lack of preparation. Problems at homes become problems in society. Daily headlines provide the report card. Take any societal ill (skyrocketing health care, financial collapse, bullying/divorce/wars) and you can find its roots in an inferior educational process. P20 is transforming the Life Skills educational process by taking things parents teach their children daily out of “parental drawers”, illuminating them as unique, skills sets foundational to thriving, and supporting parents in accessing critical information from third party educators. Sharing the concept of The Life Skills Report Cards, which Cover created while raising her own daughters, is central to P20 advocacy.
Human development professionals began rallying around Parenting 2.0′s commitment to transforming the Life Skills educational process in the Parenting 2.0 group on LinkedIn in 2009. Today, Parenting 2.0 is LinkedIn’s top ranked parenting group with nearly 3000 members in over sixty countries. P20′s mission is for children’s Life Skills Average (LSA) to one day be as appreciated as their Grade Point Average (GPA).
In August of 2012, Parenting 2.0 made history by gathering Life Skills Educators across multiple fields and continents for P20 Talks. P20 Talks was the first professional conference to recognize Life Skills as distinct foundational skills sets – skills sets that warrant embracing the expertise of third party educators. Videos of presentations for P20 Talks are provided under each presenters bio here at Parenting 2.0. http://parenting2pt0.org/presenters. In August of 2013, Parenting 2.0 Ambassadors will hold regional dinners and prepare for the next International Conference, P20 Talks 2014, in Sydney, Australia.
Cover’s book describing the inspiration behind her creation of the Life Skills Report Card and the formation of Parenting 2.0, Kissing the Mirror, Raising Humanity in the Twenty-first Century, is an Amazon Best Seller receiving five star reviews.
